What is wraparound care?
This vital service provides childcare during the before-school and after-school periods, and offers a convenient solution for many parents who struggle to co-ordinate their working hours with school timings, or for those who are managing multiple drop-offs and pick-ups. Usually based on-site at school, the provision includes a wide range of activities in an informal but familiar setting. Read more here.
Why do we need to offer wraparound care?
The government wants all primary-age children to have access to wraparound care by September 2026, meaning that schools now need to consider how they offer this facility.
What are the key challenges in establishing wraparound care?
Setting up any new provision within a school requires additional work, and wraparound care is no different. From establishing a dedicated leadership team, staffing, catering and setting up a booking and payment platform, to planning sessions which ensure the best possible outcomes for the children, there are a lot of things that need attention.
We already have wraparound care at our school – do I need the guide?
If you’re happy that you have a provision with best-practice at its heart, that offers positive experiences to all of the children who attend, then no! But if you feel that your provision could be improved, then the guide is absolutely for you.
